Unpretentious and simply prepared food that does the talking. This foodie enjoys sharing local eateries that do their job well and provide great value for your money, whether it be authentic Ethiopian cuisine at a local farmer’s market, or a larger regional operation like Doug’s Fish Fry.
Doug’s offers good food at a decent price. I recently had their signature dish, the 6 dollar fish sandwich: a huge chunk of moist white fish encased in a thin crispy batter, sandwiched by a bun – perfect for holding on so the fish cannot escape your grasp. It comes standard with a small container of onion tartar sauce. With my fish I added a generous side of fries for $2.
Started in 1982 Doug’s has a couple casual dining sit-down locations, as well as a mobile operation so that they can come to you. I’ve yet to check a physical site, but take advantage of the mobile Doug’s when I can.
Note: This is the first of what will be a series on casual dining eateries enjoyed in wanderings at home and further afield: Ithaca (New York State), Maryland (USA), Goa (India) and more.
